
Agriculture Training in Wanganui | Agriculture/Farm Training in Wanganui: All our agricultural courses are practically based with the student learning skills while working on our own training farms, or on others in the district. The classroom theory component of these courses is about 20%. SKILLS LEARNT- These courses teach skills in ATVs, Tractors, animal handling, health, breeding and feeding. FULLTIME LEVEL 2 COURSE- (free, but limited spaces, students may start at any time of the year). This is an introductory pre-employment course covering general farm skills. Students begin with the National certificate In Agriculture (introductory skills) level 2. Students are then able to specialise in the National certificate In Agriculture level 2 with strands in sheep, cattle or dairy.
National Certificate in Dairy Farming (Milking) Level 3 NC1440 Course aims and Outcomes This course is designed to appeal to students with some experience in Agriculture, such as Stars or Gateway (schools) Level 2 Agriculture Unit Standards, who wish to work as “Milkers” in a dairy shed. On completion of this course students will be able to bring in the cows, prepare the shed, milk cows, separate milk unsuitable for collection, clean the shed and yards, while keeping themselves and others safe.
While not a shed managers qualification it is envisaged students will be able to work with little or no supervision.
This is a stand alone course but the student would benefit from further training in NC1436 National Certificate (Cattle Breeding) Level 3.

National Certificate in Agriculture (Animal Feeding and Pastures) Level 3 NC1435 Course Aims and Outcomes This course is designed to appeal to students with some experience in Agriculture in either Dairy or Sheep and Beef farming, e.g. one year in training or experience on a farm. On completion of this course students should have knowledge of pastures, weeds, weather and soils, they will be able to move livestock and plan and control grazing. While not a qualification as a grazing manager it is envisaged students will be able to follow a grazing plan with little or no supervision.
This is a stand alone course suitable for any agriculture worker interested in grazing management.

National Certificate in Agriculture (Cattle Breeding) Level 3, with a strand in Dairy Cattle Farming, NC 1436 Course aims and Outcomes This course is designed to appeal to students with some experience in Agriculture (eg experience with milking) who wish to work on a dairy farm during calving/mating.
On completion, students will be able to identify cows close to calving, assist with calving, identify cows for mating and have an understanding of breeding and calf rearing methods, while keeping themselves and others safe. While not a herd managers qualification it is envisaged students will be able to do a lot of the work around calving/mating with little or no supervision.
This is a stand alone course but can also be seen as an extension of the National Certificate in Milking NC1440.
